About this Print

Smoking Heart was originally insulation accidentally sprayed between exhaust vents on the back of a restaurant.

I frequently walk past a local Sushi restaurant that is near my home. On the back of the building, there was a ventilation duct that had a very small piece of insulation protruding from it, and it got caught in the crossfire of the back wall being spray painted. I found that with the proper exposure and framing it had a striking form. Some people tell me that they have a very strong emotional reaction to this image. The included basis shot shows how unremarkable this scene appeared in real life. I went back months later to take another photo and the second version (this version) came out even better. Several months after that, it was a useless mess! This photo has been featured in a juried art show.
